Stephens College to Demolish Houses on Walnut

Stephens College has made the decision to move forward this summer with the demolition of the six houses it owns in the 1500 block of Walnut Street – after many years of considering options (including moving or restoration) that were not feasible due to cost and the condition of the houses. The structures are currently vacant and in deteriorating condition, and their removal will help improve the aesthetics of that block and meet neighborhood standards. Read the rest

Also, this was posted in the Tribune.  If you have additional information, please contact the police department.

At about 1 a.m. Sunday, a 26-year-old man said he was robbed at gunpoint by two black males armed with handguns near Ripley and Liberty streets in the Benton-Stephens area. The victim refused medical treatment despite blood on the left side of his head. He told police he was walking north on Ripley, approaching Liberty, when the gunmen approached and demanded his wallet. A passer-by across the street yelled at the two suspects, and they ran away. Haden said investigators hope the passer-by contacts police as a possible witness.

Bike Boulevard Parade To be Rescheduled

The stars did not align in our pursuit to have the Bike Boulevard Parade before winter. After moving our date and time to fit the Mayor’s schedule, we discovered last week that our parade permit that had been previously accepted was now denied (due to the football game).

Part of the planning committee has decided it best to wait for Spring to hold the event.  We apologize for the cancellation. But, much of it was out of our control. Thank you to everyone who put a lot of effort towards making this happen.

We will plan to put on this event, with a SOLID date and time some time in the spring. I’ll keep everyone updated on any proposed dates.
