Bike Boulevard Parade To be Rescheduled

The stars did not align in our pursuit to have the Bike Boulevard Parade before winter. After moving our date and time to fit the Mayor’s schedule, we discovered last week that our parade permit that had been previously accepted was now denied (due to the football game).

Part of the planning committee has decided it best to wait for Spring to hold the event.  We apologize for the cancellation. But, much of it was out of our control. Thank you to everyone who put a lot of effort towards making this happen.

We will plan to put on this event, with a SOLID date and time some time in the spring. I’ll keep everyone updated on any proposed dates.

Special Edition December Coffee Shop: Neighborhood Holiday Gift Swap

Saturday, December 5 • 8 a.m.-Noon
1601 Windsor Street

Before trudging off to buy holiday gifts, consider the Neighborhood Holiday Gift Swap!

But, you say, “I don’t make anything.” Maybe you do and don’t realize someone else would like to have those cookies you bake, apple butter, or canned green beans to include in a holiday gift basket. And it doesn’t have to be stuff. You might trade work you’re willing to do for a bar of homemade soap to give your mother, or raking and composting leaves, painting, digging, roof repair, etc. in exchange for homemade candles, clothes, candy or whatever other wares our neighbors may craft. For the “stuffless” gift, we will provide certificates to trade. Just write in the service you would like to provide.

Bike Boulevard Parade

Saturday, November 21

CANCELED

Join us for the celebration of the Bike Boulevard that is coming to our neighborhood. The event will be kicked off by a ribbon cutting by Mayor Darwin Hindman. Special guests will include the Mayor, city representatives, Get About Columbia, and a possible appearance by the Mid-Missouri High Steppers. So, we need good participation from all in the area! We will start at the corner of Windsor and Ann St. and continue on to Cafe Berlin (on 10th Street) for snacks and a presentation by Get About Columbia. The event will last approximately 1 hour. For more info, contact me.

Garden Update: Discussion Time

Saturday, November 7 • 11 a.m. (during the monthly Coffee Shop)
1601 Windsor Street

The meeting will last approximately 30 minutes. We will then recruit volunteers for a fall clean-up in the garden following the meeting. Hope to see you Saturday!

Public Hearing - Rezoning of Former Total Environments Property

Wednesday, November 4 • 5:30 p.m.
Senior Center (old Elks Lodge on Old 63)

Crockett Engineering is holding a public hearing for the proposed rezoning to C-P and construction at the former Total Environments ground on Old 63 on behalf of the new owner, Wayne Fenton. From Crockett engineering: "The purpose of this meeting is to present to the neighbors what we would like to construct on the property, what we are preserving, and how we propose to be neighbor friendly while still doing business as a commercial development. While we are proposing our development to the neighbors, in return we would like to get input from the neighbors. We would like to take this input and try to create our plan with that mind."

No Coffee Shop or Garden Meeting Oct. 3

There will be no Coffee Shop this Saturday, October 3rd. (I promise, there will be a Coffee Shop on November 7th!) In addition, the Garden Meeting scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday has been cancelled, as well. We will look to meet at a later date in October.

Thanks,

Sediment in Tap Water

This afternoon, I noticed that my water was brownish and called the city about it. They said they had a break near Walnut which has been fixed. It’s just sediment, no need to boil, but you may want to run your water before drinking or cooking.

Crime Update

I received two emails this morning from neighbors reporting thefts within the neighborhood from yesterday.  Please be vigilant. One theft occurred between 10am and 1pm.  It involved a door being kicked in and goods being stolen from inside a home on Gordon Street.  The second theft involved stealing a purse and house plants off of a front porch. Please make sure to secure doors and personal belongings. It is somewhat normal to see an increase in thefts this time of year. These incidences are not unique to our neighborhood. But, the more we work together, the safer we can make our neighborhood.
